The League of Women Voters of DeKalb County supports the concept of a tax-supported county nursing home and recommends a yes vote for the DeKalb County Nursing Home Referendum on April 2.

We believe it’s essential an institution that has continued to give quality care to a growing elderly population and to young people in need of nursing care due to disabilities and accidents continues as a tax-supported institution.

Even though area private nursing homes offer quality care, incoming patients can be admitted on a selective basis.

The league does not believe privatization of the DeKalb County Nursing Home would meet the needs of the growing elderly population, disabled young adults and those unable to pay.

The community would be left without a choice between private pay and tax-supported institutions.

The league also strongly recommends long-range planning in all areas that affect the continued operation of the DeKalb County Nursing Home be implemented in order to insure its continued operation.

Please exercise your right to vote on April 2. We support a yes vote for the DeKalb County Nursing Home Referendum.
