Annex approved by city

The annexation of land by northern DeKalb for a church was approved Wednesday night by DeKalb’s Plan Commission.

The plan commission approved a site at the northwest corner of North First Street and Dresser Road. The Illinois Assemblies of God requested the land for a new church.

“We support the idea and wouldn’t mind having a church in our neighborhood,” said Greg Sullivan, a DeKalb resident who lives near the proposed site.

“The only concerns anyone in the neighborhood has are traffic. It would be in the best interest to have the drive further north,” Sullivan said.

Gary Cordes, an attorney representing the Assemblies of God, said, “Our main concern is the availability of sanitary sewers. We (also) have a minor problem with elevation.”

Robert Boey, member of the plan commission, also said it needed to be seen whether the two streets by the site could handle an increase in traffic.

The site was approved with conditions regarding the location of fire lines, alignment of the First Street entrance with the Ilehamwood Drive entrance, placement of landscaping and location of sewage and water services.

“These are standard conditions,” said Jim Hogue, city planner.
