Fair-weather fan

In regard to the Feb. 5 letter titled “NIU poor sports” I think Michael McVey was unfair and biased. How dare he insult the capabilities of our Huskies.

The men’s basketball team has reached extreme heights and deserves to be recognized for their gallant efforts displayed this season.

He has no room to insult our men after only attending one game all season. Was he there to witness the close game against WIU when the team pulled together to put forth another outstanding victory?

Or did he see the game against U-W Green Bay when the team as a team took a harsh loss? Obviously not!

A team is a bunch of people who work together. And that is what the Huskies do—work together. It’s not only seen on the floor but within the fans.

Michael also spoke of unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by the Huskies. Was he actually watching the NIU game or something else?

The first injury to the Panthers’ #40 obviously wasn’t too serious otherwise there would’ve been an official time out.

As for the player who injured his ankle the numerous crowd of people around me applauded when he was escorted off the court.

Look around you, Mike. Many others were clapping, too—like the Dog Pound, who are a strong asset to the crowd and players and the Huskie Band.

And another thing, Mr. Athletic Supporter, leave the cheerleaders alone. They may not be able to build extravagant pyramids but they surely excite the crowd.

Our cheerleaders do a damn good job and until we have a jerk like you on the floor, keep your comments to yourself.

Frankly, I credit the coach for the tremendous job he’s done with his players; the cheerleaders for their abilities; the band for its entertainment and of course the fans for our support and loyalty.

We don’t need fair-weather fans like you, Michael, so stay home and watch the sky. Something I’m sure you’re good at but watch out for falling surprises.
