Honor president
February 13, 1991
My question is a simple one. Why don’t we honor Abraham Lincoln’s birthday?
Grade schools do, high schools and community colleges do and yet NIU does not!
NIU honors Martin Luther King, Jr. for his accomplishments, and yet where would King have been without President Lincoln?
Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery and even more importantly saved the “union.” Without Lincoln, King might have never been able to speak of the “promised land.”
Let’s give credit to one of this nation’s greatest men. Let’s honor him the same way we do King (with a day off for remembrance), or let’s not honor anyone at all.
