NIU gymnastics met with the Illinois State University Redbirds for the second consecutive time Tuesday night, this time in the Redbirds’ nest. The Huskies put on stronger showings after their last performance against ISU, with three gymnasts placing first across three events.
Although individual results improved across the uneven bars and balance beam events, the Huskies’ joint effort still wasn’t enough to clip the Redbirds’ wings. NIU (1-7) fell to ISU (8-3) 192.850-193.925.
For her second consecutive meet, junior Kiera O’Shea placed first on vault, scoring another 9.850 in the event. Sophomore Dawsyn Sallee tied for second place with a 9.775 score. Their showings gave the Huskies a vault score of 48.775, NIU’s highest event score of the night.
Senior Natalia Kraus tied for first on the uneven bars, scoring 9.775 in the event. This win redeemed her from a previous 7.600 finish last Friday. The Huskies scored a total of 47.700 on the uneven bars.
Senior Ellery Werner tied for first place on balance beam, scoring 9.825. This was her second first place finish in the event this season. Werner’s performance boosted NIU’s event score to 47.975.
The floor event saw no Huskies make the podium, but they scored a 48.400 on the night.
