After putting up 20 points to lead NIU women’s basketball to a 60-51 victory against Western Michigan University on Saturday, graduate student guard Chelby Koker has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In addition to leading the team in scoring, Koker added 5 assists and 7 rebounds in 33 minutes played. In the fourth quarter, Koker went on an 8-0 run to seal the win for the Huskies.
Koker is now the fifth-all-time leading scorer in NIU women’s basketball history with 1,813 points.
Koker is the third women’s basketball player to be awarded Huskie of the Week, following redshirt sophomore forward Brooke Blumenfeld and junior guard Alecia Doyle.
The Huskies face the Ohio University Bobcats on the road at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Athens, Ohio. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be updated on StatBroadcast.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced Feb. 24.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place Feb. 10 to Feb. 16.
