The phenomenon of getting a “sweet treat” has skyrocketed on social media like TikTok and Instagram. Whether you are craving a warm cookie, a delicious slice of cake or a cold refreshing scoop of ice cream, the perfect dessert spot can turn even the worst of days into something to smile about.
But with so many options, where in DeKalb has the sweetest treats?
STARBUCKS
Starbucks has warm hot chocolate perfect for the cold weather and frappuccinos for warmer weather, along with various pastry items and most importantly cake pops. In the Holmes Student Center, they take dining dollars and Huskie bucks.
LA MICHOACANA ICE CREAM BAR
La Michoacana, located at 162 W. Lincoln Highway, is heaven for ice cream fans with over 15 flavor options available and a variety of desserts available to try like mangonada, paletas, shakes and even some snacks to balance all of the sugar. They do not take Huskie bucks but have very affordable prices.
INSOMNIA COOKIES
If cookies are more your style, Insomnia Cookies at 203 E. Lincoln Highway is the place for you. Insomnia Cookies is open especially late from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday. This is where you go when the late-night cravings get too hard to control. With 20 consistent options and various seasonal cookies along with vegan and gluten-free options, ice cream and brownies, Insomnia Cookies really is the whole package.
THE JUNCTION
With French toast, pancakes, waffles, crepes, pie and milkshakes, The Junction does not lack a variety of options. Personally, I think dessert is an all-day option and this variety is especially notable to me. The Junction serves other food, so you are able to get dessert with your sit-down meal. The Junction is located at 816 W. Lincoln Highway.
DINING HALLS
Sometimes as a broke college student, you don’t have the funds or a car to go to any of these places. The dining halls do have pretty great sweet treats. Neptune and Patterson have their dessert tables consisting of a variety of cakes, brownies, cookies and pies. While their dessert selection rotates, Neptune and Patterson also have ice cream machines. Stevenson has packaged ice creams and cookies, brownies, pudding and cake slices.
