There are many things that students would change at NIU if given the opportunity. From changing the buses to bringing back the pool, NIU students provided their thoughts on what they would change if they were NIU’s president for a day.
Landon Whelchel, a freshman mechanical engineering major, would change the buses.
Q: “If you could be NIU’s president for a day, what would you do and why?”
A: “I’d probably fix the buses. You know, living over in Grant it’s kind of hard to walk here in the cold and sometimes the buses are only two on the route, and it’s just kind of annoying.”
Jasmin Larios, a sophomore psychology major, would give more funding to Latino students.
Q: “If you could be NIU’s president for a day, what would you do and why?”
A: “I would give more funding to Latino students because, yeah, there’s just a lot and I feel like a lot of them deserve scholarships because they come from immigrant families that can’t really afford college, so I think that support would be really good.”
Gio Rivas, a freshman sport management major, would get rid of early morning classes.
Q: “If you could be NIU’s president for a day, what would you do and why?”
A: “That’s a tough one because I’m still a freshman. I’m still learning my stuff around here, but this is my opinion, I would get rid of all the early morning classes because it’s rough. Trust me, I just got out of a 9 a.m. class and I was like half asleep. I would definitely say get rid of all the early morning classes, people get their sleep and that’s really it.”
Edward Hoffman, a junior history major, would bring back the Anderson Pool.
Q: “If you could be NIU’s president for a day, what would you do and why?”
A: “I’m going to have to go with bring back the pool! Bring back the pool! Bring back the pool! Bring back the pool, am I right? Yeah, bring back the pool.”
