After wrapping up their first home tournament since the fall of 2021, the NIU men’s golf team left the Kishwaukee Collegiate victorious. The Huskies won behind a number of key performers, but freshman Jack Mulligan stood out.
Mulligan finished the tournament in third place overall, out of 41 total golfers.
“Jack Mulligan’s performance today (Saturday) really carried us,” said NIU men’s golf head coach John Carlson. “It’s (Mulligan’s Round 1 performance) his best career round here as of right now. He has a big future ahead.”
Mulligan opened the tournament with a score of 65 in the first round – driven behind 5 birdies and 1 eagle. Furthermore, his first-round score was enough for a career best.
Midway through the second round, Illinois State University evened the scorecard, threatening NIU’s chance at a tournament win. Despite facing the pressure of a late-tournament putt, Mulligan delivered, drilling a five-footer on his final hole to help secure the victory.
Mulligan finished the second round with a score of 73, ultimately finishing three strokes behind NIU senior Felix Krammer.
