Need both sides
February 1, 1991
I wish to respond to the Jan. 30 article entitled “Gulf speak-out planned today.”
I found a comment by the NIU Community for Peace member Tom Rainey sad and rather ironic. He states to those who do not share his opinion: “We want to encourage them not to come.”
During this time of national and perhaps personal anxiety, we should recall that recent history has shown that the road to peace does not lie in divisiveness, but in open, honest discussion.
This war began as do most, with emotion-charged participants unwilling to negotiate and will end as most wars—in a bloody negotiated settlement.
The cycle continues.
