Marxist Forum focuses on war
January 23, 1991
NIU’s Marxist-Humanist Forum is sponsoring an anti-war meeting tonight to present Marxist views and opinions on the Persian Gulf war and the troops who have become prisoners of the week-old war.
The presentation, “Bush’s Drive To War Demands Total Opposition,” will feature speakers Peter Wermouth, national co-organizer of the News & Letters Committees, and Ali Atesh, an Iranian activist and Marxist-Humanist.
The meeting is in the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room at 8 p.m.
According to a press release, “the speakers will be discussing the challenge to today’s anti-war movement of developing a vision of the kind of society we are for.”
Also, the Forum will call for the immediate release of all prisoners of war, from both the allied forces and from the Iraqis: “We recognize that both Bush and Hussein have sent their youth out to kill each other and that these POWs—those being held against their will and possibly being tortured—are the pawns of these rulers,” according to a press release.
