I opened up the Northern Star on January 18, 1991, as I do every morning. Halfway through the paper, page 10 to be exact, I see a “How Whites View Blacks” survey poll taken from USA Today. I was in total shock!!!

I would like to know how such trash ended up in the Norther Star. I guess from previous printings in your paper it is no surprise to see another racially biased piece of information in your paper. This article in no way benefits anyone in any way. The only thing that benefits from such trash is the ego of the white racist. This is clearly an ignorant, opinionated population who got the opportunity (thanks to you and USA Today) to voice their opinion.

In closing, I would just like to say that with all our problems on this campus: the racist articles, the treatment from some students here, some of the professors, why put such negative trash in this paper.

I truly think your discretion of what goes in this paper is somewhat biased and has no place in a nation which is trying to advance and strive for unity. By the way, do you agree with the survey? Is that why you gave the go ahead to have it printed?
