The DeKalb Energy Spot opened for business this Labor Day. The business seeks to better the lives of students through the health benefits of protein powder.
Located at 901 Lucinda Ave. Suite T, the DeKalb Energy Spot serves protein shakes and teas.
Owner Gustavo Barrera seeks to help students at NIU be healthier through the benefits of protein-based drinks which he says can be a convenient meal replacement.
“It’s hard, especially in school, when you’re in a rush. You’re going back and forth a lot. You’re probably looking for something like an energy drink. We have energy drinks too,” Barrera said.
Barrera gives the option for customers to add caffeine to their protein teas, allowing students to get a boost of caffeine along with their drink. He also spoke about how the teas available at the DeKalb Energy Spot are beneficial for metabolism.
Barrera discussed the difficulties he faced when opening the DeKalb Energy Spot.
“I’d say the hard part is just the work that needs to be done. And today’s the first day so I feel like one of the challenges will just be getting people into something new,” Barrera said.
DeKalb Energy Spot currently only sells shakes and teas but is open to expanding their menu once they are more established in the area.
Coupons for 20% off the first two purchases made are available to be picked up by customers on the store counter.
The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
