Wrapping up on Monday, three Huskies finished in the top-25 as NIU women’s golf took fifth at the Redbird Invitational, their first invitational of the season.
NIU finished with a final score of 901, 37 over par, as a team in a field of 16 teams. The Huskies finished just two strokes behind Bowling Green State University, who finished with a final score of 899, 35 over par.
Illinois State University and South Dakota State University both finished two strokes behind, 39 over par, with a total score of 903.
Eastern Kentucky University sophomore Karra Tucker won the invitational with a total score of three under par, 213. Tucker was the only athlete in the field to finish the invitational under par.
Sophomore Alexa Ouellet was the top finisher for the Huskies at the invitational, finishing in ninth place. Ouellet’s final score was six over par, 222.
Ouellet finished her first two rounds at even par, but posted a score of six over par in the final rounds, raising her final score.
Sophomore Mia Raines earned a top-20 finish at the event, finishing tied with Eastern Kentucky senior Mary Keene Marrs in 17th place. Raines’ final score was nine over par, 225.
Sophomore Dakota Tallent was the third Huskie to finish in the top-25 of the final rankings, finishing tied for 23rd place with three other athletes.
Tallent’s final score was 11 over par, 227 with her best round of the event coming in the third round with a score of 2 over par.
Graduate Caroline Kent earned a 30th-place finish. Kent was tied for 30th place with three other athletes with a score of 13 over par, 229.
Kent’s best round was her second round of the invitational, posting a score of 72, which was tied for the best round for the Huskies on the weekend.
Freshman Emile Chile finished tied for 42nd place with five other athletes with a score of 17 over par, 233.
Junior Eva Nijenhuis competed as an independent and finished tied for 61st place with two athletes, University of Evansville sophomore Elizabeth Mercer and University of Northern Iowa senior Mckenna Mallow.
Nijenhuis’ final score for the invitational was 23 over par, 239.
The Huskies next invitational will take place Sept. 29 to Sept. 30 at the Diane Thomason Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
