Nobody is smart enough

Safe sex or death. Shouldn’t be that hard of a choice.

But there are still those who figure it’ll never happen to them, they won’t get AIDS because they’re lucky or smart enough not to get it.

However, there are 12,000 names on a memorial quilt that say otherwise.

That is why Health Enhancement Services, the Residence Hall Association and the Gay/Lesbian Union have sponsored Safe Sex Week.

For those who don’t have enough common sense to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases, these groups have banned together to help you out.

But it all boils down to thinking about what you’re doing. It doesn’t take a genius to realize “playing the field” offers some dangerous consequences. And those who use needles for intravenous purposes should know not to borrow somebody else’s needle for whatever reason.

This week is to remind people that nobody is immune to STDs of any kind. In order for the message to get through some people’s thick skulls, they need to attend the events.

It does no good to sit back in an easy chair and wait for your roommate or resident assistant to relay what they learned. They are not going to be there when you’re in need of the information they received.

Once again it is up to the individual to take care of him or herself. Nobody can force you to go, but no one should have to either.

AIDS is here. Ignoring it won’t make it go away. If only you could ask the 12,000 people who were the reason behind the quilt.
