Poor promotions

This letter is in response to Dan Chamber’s letter entitled “Dylan Mistake.” The proper title should have been “CAB Mistake.”

The Campus Activities Board did not make a mistake by assuming that “Dylan is still the rock and roll superstar that he used to be,” as Dan Chambers said.

The mistake that CAB made was their extensive promotional appropriations.

It takes simple mathematics to figure out that, had they exercised more thrift in their promotional budget, the show would have made money.

It is doubtful that many people would travel to DeKalb from Rockford to see a concert, especially on a Tuesday night. They should have focused exclusively on DeKalb.

To comment on the latter part of the letter, whereas some people might believe Dylan’s music is getting old, others, myself included, would much rather hear an artist sing a song that he actually wrote.

If Dan Chambers would rather pull out his “fresh” New Kids on the Block album and try to find some kind of meaning to it, I wish him the best of luck. I’ll stick with music that has a purpose.
