Beauty problem
November 7, 1990
I appreciate the fact that the administration is trying to upgrade the appearance of this campus. Improvements should always be welcomed.
However, choosing the busiest and most populated semester to rip this place apart was poor planning to say the least.
Have you been over to Wirtz or McMurry Hall lately? It’s enough to make you want to pull all your hair out.
If you can successfully choose the correct “path of the day” that leads you to the unblocked entrance, you get the privilege of actually making it to your classes on time. It’s a disaster area!
In addition to that, the issue of safety at night has to be addressed. The areas over by Wirtz and McMurry are not lit very well.
Add that to the fact that at night it is hard to see where to walk around in all of the ripped up areas and fence mazes, and you could have some injuries on your hands.
Also, the fact that a lot of flashers are coming out of the woodwork these days doesn’t make those areas very safe either. There are plenty of places to hide in all of that mess. Do something about it!
Finally, the rudest thing about all of this is the lack of consideration for the blind and handicapped students on this campus.
I was sickened to watch a blind man run into barricade upon barricade until I could reach him and guide him towards the safe and correct path.
Students in wheelchairs have an equally difficult time. It’s an outrage! Do something about it!
To be clear, beautification is a wonderful thing for this campus, but unless you correct the ugliness of the currrent situation no one will appreciate it, and it might cost more than you counted on.
