Setting straight

A few months ago, a letter appeared in this letters section praising the teaching efforts of John J. Dlabel III, a former physical education instructor at NIU. This letter was written by some of his former students.

Recently, it has come to my attention that certain faculty in the physical education department have been spreading lies about Mr. Dlabel.

They have been telling their students Mr. Dlabel was fired from teaching responsibilities and that his teaching methods were questionable.

I know for a fact that this is not true! Mr. Dlabel resigned because of a better job opportunity that came to him.

Mr. Dlabel was and still is an excellent teacher—just ask the students. Mr. Dlabel was the best instructor in the physical education department—just ask the students—and, no doubt, will be irreplaceable for years to come.

NIU and the physical education department, it is your loss. Mr. Dlabel enjoys his new job and feels secure in the fact that he has a future and is treated as an equal and a professional.

So, instead of wasting time and energy belittling Mr. Dlabel, why don’t you use that time and energy to try to improve your classes so maybe one day, your students can write you deserving letters when you leave NIU.

I feel very strongly in setting this situation straight. I do not appreciate lies circulating regarding my husband.
