Still a mistake
November 16, 1990
I don’t understand why there are so many negative responses to the letter written by Dan Chambers Nov. 7.
In a Nov. 12 letter, Jeff Seleb seemed to be upset with Dan because he supposedly was trying “to express the feelings of ll the people on the campus.”
Dan was most likely expressing his own opinion about Bob Dylan
nd his frustration over the loss of concert funds.
Maybe he made some generalizations about Dylan, but some people are making generalizations about him.
One person said something about Dan getting his opinions about music from listening to the radio. Scott Spaulding’s Nov. 12 letter insinuated because Dan is not a Dylan fan, he does not like “classic rock.”
Then Seleb claimed Dylan “can probably move better than (Dan) can.”
Maybe these assumptions are true, and maybe they are false. The point is that the people writing these letters do not know what Dan listens to, what he likes, or what he “moves” like, so they should not pass judgment.
It is obvious some people enjoyed the show, some disliked it and some chose not to go for whatever reason.
I am not speaking for Dan, or anyone else, when I say I feel the concert committee did a poor job assessing the desires and tastes of students, and I think many people agree with me.
For those ready to make generalizations about me, I listen to “classic rock” every so often, but I’d rather see someone new, and I think it’s a shame we have no money left for large scale concerts.
