Its meant to be

As we near the end of the semester that has provided this newspaper with countless topics of racism, sexism, and “religion-ism” and just plain old “I-got-one-up-on-you-ism,” I would like submit for your approval a brief account of “Hey-we’re-all-people-let’s-just-have-some-fun-ism.”

This past Sunday afternoon, a few of us from the fraternity had planned to get together and play some football.

As I drove up to the field across from the TV-8 Broadcast Center, to my surprise I found not only my frat but also several people that I did not know.

All together, there were about 24 of us. We played a hard fought game complete with lots of fumbles, interceptions, big plays and hard hits.

About two hours and several bruises and sore muscles later, we adjourned our game with the final score being 44-42. We departed, wishing each other a happy Thanksgiving and good luck on finals.

The amazing and unique thing about this game is that many different races were represented.

I mean there were Asian dudes, Hispanic dudes, black dudes, white dudes… we mixed it up on different teams and just plain played ball and had a good time.

A PR person might have called it “Unity in Diversity.” An administrator might have called it “minority relations.” I just say that’s the way things are meant to be.

Thanks for the experience fellas. Happy Holidays. Peace.
