Lacrosse ends year with win

The NIU Lacrosse Club ended their fall season by taking the University of Illinois Invitational.

The Huskies beat the University of Dayton and Northwestern University to earn a place in the championship game against Purdue University.

Purdue beat Illinois State University and host Illinois to gain a berth in the championship game. After falling behind by three goals in the first quarter, the Huskies managed to take the lead through aggressive, physical play.

Although the Huskies led by as many as three goals in the match, NIU had to withstand a late Purdue surge to win 10-9.

The lacrosse club ended with an 8-3-1 record for the season. An early season slump resulted in a loss to the University of Illinois and a narrow defeat to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Huskies sustained only one more loss through the rest of the season, a 17-12 loss at the hands of the Lakeshore Lacrosse Club, founded by former NIU Lacrosse Club President John Hughes.

Highlights of the season for NIU included a victory over the Lacrosse club of Lincoln Park and the sharing of the championship, along with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, of the NIU Fall Lacrosse Classic. The championship game was called after the first quarter due to lightning. The rematch is tentatively scheduled for the spring.
