Dylan mistake
November 7, 1990
Although Traci Leach won’t admit it, it seems that getting Bob Dylan to play at NIU was indeed a bad decision.
The $20,000 loss to CAB is proof enough. CAB’s mistake lies in their assumption that Dylan is still the rock and roll superstar that he used to be.
The fact is that Bob Dylan, his music, and his fans are all getting old. I, personally, after hearing “Like a Rolling Stone” about a thousand times on the radio over the years, am not inclined to see an old man stumble onto the stage and play it again.
Maybe the poor ticket sales are a sign that students are finally getting sick of their parents’ old rock heroes and are ready for some fresher music. After all, this is the ‘90s.
It is unfortunate CAB can’t have any more big shows due to their heavy loss. Now the only bands that students can go see are the local ones. Hmmm….
