Still rock heroes

I am writing in regards to the letter entitled “Dylan Mistake” by Dan Chambers in the Nov. 7 issue of The Northern Star.

If I was asked to justify Mr. Chamber’s logic in the asinine article, I would honestly say I am at a loss.

I do believe Mr. Chambers has a valid opinion about CAB’s decision to schedule Bob Dylan. After all, we are all entitled to our opinions.

What I find fault with, and don’t understand, is what motivated him to write that “people are finally getting sick of their parents old rock heroes,” or the direct Bob Dylan insult about seeing an old man stumble on stage to play. It was uncalled for.

Mr. Chamber’s article dedicated two paragraphs to insulting Dylan and a popular genre of music. While not a big fan of Dylan, I am a fan of my parents rock heroes and even some of the new ones.

I believe I could supply a list as long as my arm of other fans of this genre.

Before insulting these musicians in the media, Mr. Chambers may want to count the students who journeyed to Alpine Theater to see the Rolling Stones, or the Who, or even the recent sold out shows by Dylan himself.

Furthermore, if people are getting tired of these performers, can Mr. Chambers explain the success of “classic rock” on local radio?

I don’t believe these people would write to the Star to publicly express their opinions about fresher music “after all, this is the 90’s.”

Again, I believe Mr. Chambers is entitled to his opinions. However, I put it to him that wouldn’t his opinion be more profitable to CAB directly?

Even with my limited involvement with CAB I know they desire such feedback from students.

The Northern Star is the wrong medium to express doubts or insult a popular type of music. By the way Mr. Chambers, I was at the show and he didn’t stumble once. Not bad for an old man, huh?
