Give all respect
November 9, 1990
I’m writing to you in regards to the delivery girl who was mugged last week at Lincoln Hall whose attacker was cheered on by the people in the lobby.
If anyone has ever been to Lincoln Hall on a weekend night, they should not be surprised that this sort of thing could happen.
I have lived in Lincoln Hall for two years and have witnessed many people being harassed by those who hang out in the lobby. However, no one takes any sort of action because the university is afraid of being called racist.
This should not be a racial matter. Whether a person is black or white, they deserve as much respect as the next guy.
Another example of this lack of respect is at the movies at the Holmes Student Center. Halloween weekend, I went to see “The Exorcist”, and throughout the movie there was talking, laughing and rude comments made.
The audio was very difficult to hear as a result of this. Some of these things always take place, but there is a limit and in every showing this limit is crossed.
Once again, because of racial conflict the ushers are afraid to do anything to stop this disturbance.
There has to be a stop to this lack of respect and courtesy shown in Lincoln Hall and in the student center. There must be better security in these places to insure the safety and respect that everyone deserves on this campus.
The university should respect all the students on this campus, and not favor a certain race over the rest of the tuition paying students just to avoid looking racist.
