Raises tensions
November 20, 1990
This letter concerns the article about Tanya Smith written by Lisa Ferro. I read the Star almost daily and find this article disturbing.
It’s nice to know the Student Association is working for the students, but do we need to know every little detail?
According to some, Tanya Smith isn’t doing her job correctly, but does everyone on campus who reads the Star need to know about it?
Imagine how embarrassed and humiliated Tanya Smith feels now that everyone knows about her.
Let’s turn the tables and ask—what if Tanya Smith was any other race than black? Would the article have appeared at all?
The article is an embarrassment not only to Tanya but to others as well, and is yet another step back in the reduction of racial tensions at NIU.
