No racial basis
November 28, 1990
Daniel J. Stratman, on Nov. 20, caused an eyebrow to be raised with the concerns over Tanya Smith’s recent fall from favor. His implication, unless I am mistaken, was that her race had some factor in the coverage of the story.
Mr. Stratman, do you really believe that—or do you have nothing better to write about?
Come now, the only reason I knew that Miss Smith was black was due to the photographs. I do not recall any mention of her race. Where is your basis?
Were you in some off-land last year with Miss Scheidelman’s troubles with the Student Association? Wait! The year before, it was Miss Radtke!
Now, both of them happen to be white females who were covered by The Northern Star. The reason I mention race is that I believe you are the one making a racial connection with this. Hey look, all of them happen to be women!
Mr. Stratman, might I suggest you take your blood pen and quickly scribe a letter to the local woman’s rights organization. Perhaps your misdirected, but noble, efforts may actually take credence.
For the sake of reality, do not shout racial reasons. When people of different races get in a tiff—isn’t it possible they just might be disagreeing? It’s only a thought.
