Fully persecute
November 6, 1990
After reading the article about the harassed pizza delivery person, I had to read it again to confirm that such insensitive behavior took place on this, or any other, university campus.
How can a tragic event like this occur on campus and there be what appears as a complete collapse of justice regarding the possible persecution of guilty parties.
It is a moot point regarding the number of people present, the fact remains that those present gave encouragement to the attacker, which is not only a clear violation of the judicial code, but unethical behavior on their part.
For this reason it is my opinion that the charges be brought against the attacker to the fullest extent of the law.
I also believe whomever the attacker was visiting on campus should accept some of the responsibility for the attacker’s action.
According to the residence hall handbook, “Guidepost,” the resident is responsible financially and judicially for the attacker’s actions.
Mob action like that shown in this incident should not be tolerated anywhere and especially in a university setting.
A university should be a place for learning without the fear of intimidation. Those that were involved in this incident have no business on this or any other campus.
If the investigation proves all allegations to be true, then it is the responsibility of the university and the student body to request the parties be punished. An unsafe campus for one is an unsafe campus for all.
