Acting associate dean appointed

A 13-year NIU faculty member has been appointed to the position of acting associate dean of the College of Professional Studies for the second time.

Sharon Miller was appointed to the position after James Lankford advanced to acting dean of the college. Peggy Sullivan, former acting dean, left that position to become NIU’s Interim Director of University Libraries, Lankford said.

Lankford said the one-year position carries the responsibilities of coordinating curricular changes within the college’s six schools and coordinating faculty research activities. This includes approving faculty grants and special research inquiries, he said.

Miller is not unfamiliar with the position. She held the same position during 1983.

“I’m familiar with the demands of the job having served in this capacity previously. There are some similarities and differences, but I’m not surprised by them,” Miller said.

Miller has been at NIU for 13 years, she said. She is an associate professor in the School of Allied Health Professions, teaching in the medical technology program. She still teaches and plans to continue teaching, she said.

She also was the coordinator of the medical technology program for 10 years.

Miller said she is happy to be in the position again. “It’s very exciting to know what’s happening in the other departments within our college. It’s a very enjoyable position,” she said.

Lankford said he is pleased to be working with her and have her in the college. “She knows the administration well. She has a good knowledge base and good organizational skills,” he said.
