In its last meet of the regular season, NIU gymnastics battled in the Minnesota Quad Night Sunday afternoon against No. 13 University of Minnesota.
The Golden Gophers hosted the Huskies, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini and the No. 20 University of Iowa Hawkeyes. NIU didn’t claim any podium spots for the first time this season, and was missing a gymnast in the floor lineup for unknown reasons.
The Huskies (3-15, 0-6 MAC) finished last, scoring 191.400. The Golden Gophers (12-4) placed first with 197.825, the Hawkeyes (14-6) claimed second with 196.475 and the Fighting Illini (5-14) placed third, scoring 195.150.
Senior Jocelyn Harbeck competed all-around for NIU and scored 38.550 overall. She scored 9.600 on floor, 9.725 on vault, a season-high 9.500 on uneven bars outside of exhibition and tied her season-high 9.725 on balance beam.
“Jocelyn competed all-around today and I am so proud of her hard work and perseverance,” head coach Dawnita “Nita” Teague said about Harbeck via NIU Athletics. “To end your college career with your first all-around performance is impressive. She posted our best beam score today and tied a career high.”
Sophomore Audrey Brenner tied her season-high 9.775 vault score, tying with junior teammate Dawsyn Sallee.
“Dawsyn and Audrey both performed great vaults today,” Teague said about the pair via NIU Athletics. “Dawsyn has had a 9.700 or better in every meet, very impressive. Audrey has also been super consistent on vault and added a season high today.”
Freshman Syvanna Navarro made her vault debut, scoring 9.350 as NIU’s anchor.
