Catered religion
November 9, 1990
It will be interesting to read about the goings-on at our December commencement ceremonies. About the only “Non-denominational” prayer I can think of is: Shall we now have a moment of silence?
It never fails to disturb me to find a presumption of Christianity in secular ceremonies I have attended at schools and universities in the state of Illinois.
And, I would be upset to learn that university-sanctioned efforts would be made at NIU to cater in any way to that one particular religious community’s druthers at the expense of others even though Mr. Shur may personally (and perhaps even professionally) recognize “a Christian majority on this campus.”
