After striking out a career-high 12 batters in eight innings on Saturday, NIU baseball sophomore pitcher Carter Cox has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
Leading the way for NIU’s 6-0 shutout of the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the series finale, Cox allowed 0 runs on just 3 hits while conceding two free bases.
Cox becomes the final member of the Huskies’ rotation to earn the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, following junior Danny Cihocki on Feb. 23 and senior Max Vaisvila on March 30.
This is the fifth Huskie of the Week honor for baseball, following Cihocki on Feb. 23, senior outfielder Caden Robertson on March 16, senior catcher Ivan Dahlberg on March 23 and Vaisvila on March 30.
NIU baseball returns to action at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Eastern Illinois University at Ralph McKinzie Field and Walt at Janice Owens Park. The game will be streamed on NIU All Access and live stats will be updated on SIDEARM Sports.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced on April 13.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from March 31to April 6.
