Annual multi-cultural career fair held

Students looking for advice about the world outside the NIU campus might find some answers at a career fair this week.

The university is holding its second annual multi-cultural career fair, which began Monday and will continue through Thursday in the Holmes Student Center, said Bernadine Chapman, ACCESS/student support services director.

Although the fair is geared toward minority students and students involved in the student support services program, all NIU students are welcome, Chapman said.

“It’s geared toward preparing students for interviews in the actual market,” she said.

About 30 companies will be represented and available for students to seek answers to their questions concerning interviewing, internships and full-time employment positions, Chapman said.

Students are welcome to attend workshops offering mock-interviews and informing students on what the corporate world is really like.

Workshops include “What Coporate Recruiters Look For,” today at 3:30 p.m. and “If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else,” also tonight at 6 p.m. Both workshops will be held in the student center’s Illinois Room.

The career fair is sponsored by NIU’s College of Business, offices of educational services and programs, Career Planning and Placement, Cooperative Education and the Center for Black Studies.
