News professionals to host convention, give programs

More than 200 professionals in the news business are on their way to NIU.

The fall convention of the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association will be held Oct. 26 at the Holmes Student Center. The convention will include three programs, each held from 10 a.m. to noon.

Marx Gibson of the Joliet Herald News will moderate “Approaches to Interviewing.” It will be discussed by Lonnie Cain of the Ottowa Daily Times; Ken Kaupas, a sergeant with the Illinois State Police; and Wallace Hamblin of Kendall County Human Services.

A second program will be “Working Together to Promote Advertising,” by Kathy Galloway for IPA Press Services and Bonnie Reicks of the Daily Herald.

A third program will be “Leadership,” by Drew Davis of the Pioneer Press in Wilmette.

After the annual awards luncheon, four newspaper readers and four non-newspaper readers will discuss why they do or don’t read newspapers, to be moderated by Sandy Stevens of the Aurora Beacon News.

egistration is $15 for individuals and $35 for newspapers. A reception with prizes, refreshments and a cash bar will be held in the Clara Sperling Skyroom at 3:30 p.m.
