Robes, gavels are past due

The Student Association is losing track of time.

SA President Rob McCormack decided to delay nominating the rest of the SA Supreme Court for another week. That makes three weeks.

McCormack said because “things got a little out of hand” last week he wanted to let the senators step back and look at the “issues” before appointing nominations.

The circumstances surrounding the court nominations were out of hand, but it shouldn’t take the senate three weeks to look at the issues. The senate had time prior to the first nominations to look at the “issues.” If the senators didn’t look then, they weren’t doing their job.

However, they had another week to approve nominations. But, it seems two weeks still isn’t enough to grasp the “issues.”

So a full supreme court will have to wait, for an indefinite amount of time. McCormack said “We’re not punching a time clock to approve the other two senators.” A time clock might not be necessary, but a calendar is. The semester is half way through, yet there is no court for students to turn to.

Supreme court nominees should have been robed and seated long ago. The whole purpose behind a supreme court is to make sure rules are followed.

The three justices appointed make a quorum, but it doesn’t offer an adequate number of people for a well-balanced decision.

McCormack now has the responsibilty to get things moving. But he wouldn’t have this problem if more of the senators had gotten their acts together.
