The Student Association should be looking for productive ways to send its message. And it seems that’s what some are trying to do.
SA Advertising Adviser John Quilico is proposing the group develop informational newsreels to let students know exactly what the SA is up to.
The reels would include giving the SA a first-hand chance to explain to students what the SA is all about and explain the programs it is involved with.
Although this is not a new idea, Quilico now seems to have the time to take on the issue and maybe get it working. When former-Sen. Amanda Rutter introduced the proposal last year, there was no one available to seriously look into it.
But now the newsreels seem more attainable since there is a professional filming fraterniy—Alpha Epsilon Rho—interested in producing the reels for free. The only price tag would be $10 each for VHS video tapes. The estimated total cost would be about $150.
The newsreels seem like a positive step towared directly reaching the students.
If the proposal is approved, the challenge will be making the mini-films both interesting and informative. But part of the deal would be to give the fraternity good filmmaking experience while tackling such a challenge.
After all, the SA newsreels would be in competition with soda commercials, rowdy college students and the Looney Tunes.
