Better candidate

On Oct. 26, a letter written by a candidate for County Clerk and Recorder was published.

In it, the candidate claimed her opponent had misstated the candidate’s position regarding splitting the office of County Clerk and Recorder into two separate offices.

It appears the candidate in question, Sharon Holmes, has forgotten a recent article covering her candidacy.

In the May 2 edition of the MidWeek, the article notes:

“Although it may not be a campaign issue, she (Holmes) also said it’s time for the county board to consider separating the clerk/recorder’s office into two entities.

“‘They’re two completely different functions. With the growth we have seen in the county and in the office, I definitely think the need is there,’ she said.”

It appears either Ms. Holmes has changed her mind concerning this issue or she was misquoted.

If it is the former, a number of questions come to mind. First, why has she changed her mind? If she has changed her mind since May 2, why hasn’t she made this change known to the voting public instead of simply accusing her opponent of misrepresenting her position?

If she was misquoted, why did she wait five months to correct the misstatement?

As a practicing attorney, I deal extensively with the office of DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder.

It is clear there is only one candidate who is qualified for the entire position of DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder. That cadidate is Susan Johnson.

I strongly urge all the readers of The Northern Star to vote on Nov. 6 for Susan Johnson for DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder.
