Sharon Holmes, Republican candidate for DeKalb County Clerk, has decided thirteen years as Chief Deputy under Terry Desmin, active County Clerk, is experience enough to get a raise.

“The experience I’ve gained as Chief Deputy and the contact I’ve had with all regions of the government as well as with state agencies gives me a good working relationship and understanding of the needs and problems of the tax payers and citizens of DeKalb County,” she said.

Holmes is running against Sue Johnson, Democratic candidate whose campaign intentions were reported last week. “I have never suggested splitting the offices,” said Holmes in response to Johnson’s accusation that she suggested splitting the offices of County Clerk and Recorder. “This is not up to me,” she said. “This is up to the County Board and the voters.”

“My intention is to serve the office full time with no other obligations or outside business interesets,” she said. “The integrity and efficiency in record-keeping (that) the citizens have come to depend on is important, and I plan to maintain and continue that service to the voters.”

Another campaign issue Johnson said she plans on working toward, if elected, is the possibility of DeKalb County beginning to form its own computer system. “The elections part of the computer system has been computerized for 20 years,” Holmes said. “Recently we have computerized the vital records and we plan on keeping aware of the latest changing technology.”

olmes said she believes she has the”administrative and budgeting experience to manage the office with fiscal responsibility.”
