Don’t take lame excuses
October 1, 1990
Lame excuses and bureacratic secrets are not going to appease students anymore.
This semester students have encountered more postponement and administrative mumbo jumbo than we sould be willing to take from Barbara Henley, vice president for Student Affairs.
Students have the right to know what exactly Henley is doing about the $850 she allocated to the Campus Activities Board Art Committee. They should not be kept in the dark while Henley attempts to clarify the matter behind her closed office door – or at least pretends to.
During the summer, Henley allocated funds to the art committee for exhibit refreshments after the Student Association recommended not providing the money. According to the Board of Regents, the president and his staff have the authority to veto SA allocations burt cannot hand out money themselves. Henley’s actions clearly violated this restriction.
The clock is ticking, and the students are still waiting for his response. Especially student Regent James Mertes who also is not willing to wait idly by for Henley and is threatening to bring it up at the next Regents meeting without her input.
Students must not let Henley ignore us any longer. This is not a game and students interests are not trivial.
There is no time to waste. If you’re a student who cares about student rights, put your energy to good use and let Henley know we can’t be put off with a “don’t call us, we’ll call you” attitude.
