Blame altered
September 14, 1990
This is in response to Alfred Tatum’s letter of Sept. 12. Mr. Tatum, you could not be more wrong.
Nothing that the Star printed about the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s abuse of the university’s credit card was out of line for a newspaper to print.
When I read the article, I just assumed they were talking about a white fraternity. I certainly did not feel sorry for the thieves.
Your letter is just another example of the “it’s not our fault, blame it on the people” strategy employed by the members of the black community to avoid or mitigate their personal responsibility.
I can’t help to think that if this story had been written exactly the same way about a white fraternity, we would have heard nothing from you, or anyone else, about these poor victimized students.
