SA delays hurt students

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

For instance, many student organizations’ activities will be delayed this fall thanks to the Student Association’s postponed senate elections.

For those students who believe what the SA does won’t affect them, well here’s proof that you’re wrong.

Student organizations that plan to use NIU facilities, get funding or represent the university must be SA recognized before they are allowed to follow through with those plans.

The SA will not have a full senate until after the Sept. 19 and 20 elections. For senators who don’t know what to do and how to do it, the SA is having a needed training session Sept. 23.

With this in mind, the earliest any organization could be recognized would be that next Saturday, Sept. 30. So organizations will not be able to meet or plan using NIU facilities other than a residence hall room.

School starts in late August, and if organizations plan to get anything done for the year they need to start early. Unfortunately, the SA made this darn near impossible.

Student organizations usually would have a span of about 14 weeks to make plans, but that time has been cut to 10 weeks by the SA’s delays. By the time student organizations get a chance to meet, mid-terms will be knocking at the door.

New organizations can’t be effective with that kind of pressure breathing down their necks.
