Second-string Huskie quarterback Robert Rugai was arrested Sunday by DeKalb Police and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and accepting alcohol as a minor.
Police said they stopped Rugai, 20, on Lincoln Highway near Annie Glidden Road because he had a broken taillight.
The police stopped Rugai and determined he was intoxicated, police reports state. Rugai refused to take a breathalyzer, police said.
“This is the first time that I’ve been aware that there was a problem with Rob over the weekend,” said head football Coach Jerry Pettibone when asked about any action being taken against Rugai by the Athletic Department.
“If he’s done something wrong, then he’ll be disciplined just like any player on the team.”
Pettibone said there is no set team policy concerning misbehavior, adding that he handles each case individually.
Rugai, a sophomore from Chicago, has seen limited action in the Huskies so far this fall.
