Comedy trio to look for laughs among students
August 27, 1990
To relieve the stress of first-week lines, moving in and homesickness, the University Bookstore is sponsoring a two-hour comedy show tonight.
“We Can Make You Laugh,” a comedy trio from New York, will perform at 8 p.m. in Diversions. The show is free.
“We encourage people to come,” said Jennifer Staulding, Campus Activites Board special events coordinator. “It’s an excellent show.”
Staulding said the first hour of the performance will be regular stand-up comedy acts, with each of the comedians telling jokes for 20 minutes. But the real fun comes in the second hour.
The comedians will pull audience members to the stage and try to make them laugh. If the audience member can keep a straight face for a six-minute endurance test, he wins $25 and a T-shirt.
However, Staulding said, the group’s management assured her the game show part of the evening is “clean” and involves no physical contact that could provoke laughter.
But for some, the show will begin hours earlier. The comedians will be wandering around campus—especially near add-drop lines—to entertain and try to reduce some of the stress of waiting in lines, Staulding said.
