Hennings signs contract
May 1, 1990
Former Huskie defensive tackle Ted Hennings was one of 12 players signing standard National Football League free agent contracts Tuesday with the Chicago Bears.
“I’ve been a Bears’ guy all my life,” Hennings admitted. “I’ve been thinking about it (playing in the NFL) since I was a little kid. I have no idea about my chances. I’m just happy they chose me as a free agent.”
“This is great for Ted,” said NIU head coach Jerry Pettibone. “It’s an excellent opportunity for him. He had a fine career here. Playing for the Bears means a lot to him and a lot to our program.”
“(Mike Ditka) told me to gain 10 pounds, and wished me luck,” said Hennings. “I’m happy for the opportunity. I plan to work hard and try my best in camp.”
Hennings will report to mini-camp from May 23-26.
