Many students to consider

NIU should be congratulated on the recent groundbreaking for Faraday II, a needed and welcome addition to the campus. The newest building in 10 years, Faraday II is bound to improve the university as a whole.
The four-story building will increase the number of available classes and as a result decrease the number of students rejected each year during class registration. With the student population having doubled since 1963, the space is a blessing.
Increasing the science departments, specifically physics and chemistry, will help the university to be on par with other state universities improving their science programs. Sciences are the key to progress in today’s society.
The facility also will allow for more research and science professors can better keep up with their research and the most recent developments in the scientific world.
Although construction for the site might not begin until the middle of the summer, the groundbreaking was scheduled early for the benefit of students who might not be here this summer when bids might be finalized.
The excitement behind this new project is great for campus morale and for the campus in general, but one thing must be kept in mind: NIU is an undergraduate institution, not just a science lab. There are 25,000 NIU students.
