Supports stand
April 2, 1990
I want to express support for the Philosophy Forum for taking a firm and ingenius stand on the ROTC discrimination issue.
Contrary to the claims of The Northern Star editorial staff, the forum’s position is extremely well executed. Its action represents a firm and concrete stand against the hypocrisy of the administration for allowing ROTC on campus while claiming to protect human rights within its very constitution.
It also underscores the absurdity of the reluctance on behalf of so many people and organizations to become involved in this human rights struggle. Some claim that people are afraid of being associated with radical activists, people who take the idea of rights and freedom seriously.
The Philosophy Forum is concerned about human rights and they are taking a stand. Marxists, homosexuals, feminists and other radicals are concerned with maintaining human rights. They are taking a stand. The university is not concerned with maintaining human rights and has made that painfully clear.
All students and organizations and all other people who are concerned about maintaining human rights have a responsiblity to take a firm stand on this issue.
Discrimination is discrimination. If freedom is worth fighting for, as so many people love to claim, good. Please come out and join the struggle.
