Parking prices
April 22, 1990
It has been reported that the NIU Parking Committee voted to divert $100,000 of parking monies to the MLK Commons renovation. If The Star had correct facts, three parking spots would be created. The cost of each parking spot would then be $33,333.
Does a $33,333 parking spot come with a gold plated parking meter and valet parking? Will I be allowed to park my $2,000 Ford truck in one of the spots or will the three parking spaces be reserved for expensive sports cars like those that some NIU administrators drive?
From looking at the renovation plans, it appears that ten or more spots may be destroyed on the west side of the library. I imagine the use of parking money can be rationalized if it is assumed that many students will “park” themselves on the benches and under trees in a renovated commons area?
