Golfers finish 11th

Weather was not the only thing “cold” at the Saturday-Sunday Indiana University Women’s Golf Invitational: The NIU Huskies never did get warmed up and finished 11th in the 14-team outing.

A biting wind hampered Saturday’s opening 36-hole effort with NIU shooting a 12th-place 668. Warmer Sunday conditions led to an NIU 18-hole 326 as the Huskies scooted past Purdue University for 11th place.

Indiana’s Jen Myers carded a 54-hole 224 to earn individual medalist honors. Her Hoosier teammates shot a hot 908 to outdistance runner-up University of Iowa by 33 strokes.

NIU was led by a trio of 240’s scorers: Nicole Jeray (244), Kim Hodges (248) and Cindi Watson (249). Mishelle Reed shot a 253 while Sharon Humphrey (263) and Jenny Mellinger (270) rounded out Huskie scoring.
