Getting ahead in tomorrow

The state government seems to finally see the importance of a well-educated society.

A school voucher proposal suggesting state-funded grants for parents of students, which has been considered in the House Executive Committee for the past couple of years, has been passed on for consideration by the Illinois House.

State aid would be divided by the number of students in the state to make sure there is an equal distribution of funds.

The vouchers would allow parents to send their children to any public school of their choice within their district. If parents can choose where to send their children to school, and hence which schools will be funded, public schools would be more willing to improve their programs. What d‘ you know? A better institution of education.

Children previously unable to attend school because of low family funds could get an education with the state grants. Also, families will not have to pay twice—via taxes to support public schools—for an education if they send their children to a private school.

The voucher proposal shows the government sees the true value of education. It’s a well-known fact that today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders and focusing on the importance of education now will make for a more educated society in the future.
