Consider facts

This letter responds to the Amy Davis letter on April 4th. Amy’s examination of the SA presidential election ‘carefully’ and ‘cautiously,’ we feel, lacks careful and cautious thought.

Amy states she wants a candidate who will keep tuition down and the campus safe. The best candidate for this job is the one with experience on these issues. One who is restructuring the Student Political Education Action Committee, which will call for strong lobbying against state tuition increases. One who was vital in the restructuring of the Tenant Union into the Community Affairs Office, which calls for an effective liaison to the city to help with increased security, lighting, and student welfare. This candidate is John Fallon. This is fact, not hearsay, which Amy is so apt to believing.

Amy wants a clean campaign and feels Mr. Fallon is playing dirty. She says it was funny how Fallon was prepared for his press conference. Since when is preparation playing dirty? Mr. Fallon was prepared, but only made his announcement after receiving permission from the SA Elections Commissioner. There is no written SA bylaw about the subject. Again Amy was blinded by hearsay and could not see the facts.

Amy wants a candidate with ‘his own ideas’ who will ‘stand on their own two feet’. Yet in the presidential debate both candidates were asked to give their ‘own ideas’ on the student credit union, which only Mr. Fallon answered. Mr. McCormack did not say one word about the credit union, except that it was Fallon’s idea. Now who’s the one with his own ideas?

The things that bother us the most about Amy’s letter are the statements about how Mr. Fallon is looked upon by his fellow senators and his fraternity brothers. Amy does not know that John was elected by fellow senators to be their spokesperson, and that he receives much support from his fellow senators.

She also neglected to state the facts about his fraternity brothers. John was elected by them to serve as an executive board member. He has been an active in the chapter for two years, and has earned the highest respect from his brothers. His fraternity supports him 100 percent. This is fact, not hearsay. We challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

In closing, we feel that Amy should re-evaluate her careful and cautious examination. She should rely on facts, not on ficton, and she should know that libel is against the law. It’s your choice. You can support people like Amy who have endorsed Rob McCormack, or you can vote for the facts, ideas, and experience of John Fallon.
