CAB budgets approved after criticism
April 22, 1990
After nearly three hours of controversy Sunday, Student Association senators finally agreed on several Campus Activities Board budgets after criticizing the entire funding system.
Senators Jeff Stark and Michael Magdich argued that NIU organizations should get the money they ask for and the SA should be sympathetic to the organizations’ financial needs.
However, SA Vice President Steve Coloia said the SA would set a “very dangerous precedent” if they allocated money that way.
While recommending budgets, the SA finance committee tried to stay within a 4.5 percent increase for each organization’s requested budget, said Sen. Preston Came. However, all of the CAB’s funding requests fell short.
The senators heard CAB department presentations and, based on the finance committee’s recommendations, revised or approved the budgets.
